Mitch Warrington

Mitch Warrington (born Mitch Vaughn-Brüchall Warrington) is a 19 year old student at the Alberta College of Art + Design studying in the First Year program. He intends to enter the photo major program and get his degree in photography. He was originally born in the small village of Hallstatt, Austria, but immediately moved to Canada after his birth. Photography has been a passion of his since the age of 12, and since then has wanted to attend art school in order to achieve his ultimate goal in life: making a living off his photography. ACAD was actually not his first choice for college. He also was accepted at CaliforniaArt School in San Francisco, as well as the Art Institutes of Vancouver and Seattle. Financial issues prevented Mitch from choosing one of these institutes, which left ACAD as the most suitable option. Some of Mitch’s favourite artists include Adam Fuss, Ansel Adams, and Annie Lebovitz.

Some of Mitch’s greatest influences actually derive from the life he is surrounded by. He says “Anything can happen, its just up to you whether or not you choose to pay attention to these things, and if you do, you may even open up a new perspective to the world.” Mitch believes that taking time to view the world can lead to an emerging creative mind, no matter who you are. Music is also a big influence to Mitch. Listening to a variety of music genres indeed influences his creativity. For example, he listens to dubstep, which will affect his creativity pattern much differently than if he listens to ambient, new age music, which also inspires his work. Travel and simply adventuring is a huge deal for Mitch, because of the fact that he can discover new places to view the world.

“Warning! Globalization Threat!” (Wall Installation)

STATEMENT

For this first project, we were told to choose a quote relating to technology, and ours ended up being about Globalization. After we were to create a wall installation that would match the meaning of that quote. I found this project at first, to be rather frustrating and stressful because we had a very hard time figuring out our concept in the beginning. However, after our ideas came together, it became rather interesting for me and I enjoyed creating this. Our wall space was first painted black, then we collaged different pieces of images and text either found on the web, or created from scratch by us. This was a collaberative piece created with Mercedes Alexander.

“Obscure Sound” (Group MADT Project)

STATEMENT

For this project, we got together with the other 101 MADT class and were put into random groups. First we were to listen to a sound clip, then we had to write our observations down. After this, we received another groups observations, and we were to create a final video sound piece. I actually really enjoyed doing this project, as crazy busy it made us. The process for me was an interesting thing because of how it started and then how it ended up. Video was created in ACAD, Various found objects were used to create sounds, then editing was done on the computer to alter the sounds. Others in the group included Taha Ben-Ashur, Shige Ishi, and Christianne Leduc.

“Warning! Globalization Invasion!” (Sound Project)

STATEMENT

This was honestly one of my favorite projects from the entire semester. I really loved using a variety of sound clips to create one big sound piece. I feel very happy with how this turned out and I think it connects with the Wall Installation very clearly. Sound clips were recorded with a high tech sound recorder, and were then uploaded to the computer where they were rearranged, tweaked, manipulated, and so on to form one whole sound piece. Sound piece was created using Audacity, and the video was created with iMovie.

“Party Rock” (Remix Project)

STATEMENT

Doing work for this project actually began much differently then what I ended up creating. My intial plan was to create a sound remix that had to do with how our generation is now known as the “Party Rock” generation because of all the partying and clubbing and getting wild we tend to take part in. However, I found it extremely stressful and tedious creating a whole song from scratch with the amount of time we had to make this. So instead, I decided to take a more safe approach, and work within the skills I already had. So I decided to go with a Photoshop Collage visual to represent this idea instead. All images were found from the website called Tumblr. Cut and paste photoshop collage created on Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended.
