GIFs

these short animated images are untitled and are simply for visual pleasure. The former, a bird in flight, observing the flight of a bird to show the sophisticated pattern of a bird’s flight; the latter, teethblah, a more humorous comment on one’s appearance and its dental features.

Appropriation Project

For this project we had to use a quote as a starting point. The quote we chose as a group was:  ”Imagine a world, in which everybody has free access to the sum of all human knowledge.” – Jim Wales, founder of Wikipedia. The quote was emphasizing the opportunities available with the internet. How we decided to portray this feeling was we took many images form a variety of sources and mashed them together in photoshop, all being presented in old computer monitors. The work was meant to be more abstract, in which the viewer would not necessarily see that quote, but would see the variety of things you can find using the internet. The work turned out quite well until we added text at the end.

Translation Project

This untitled project is a collaborative video work which is a translation of an abstract poem. Our attempt was to create a video manifestation of the poem. We took shots of ourselves running up and down stairs and counting in a sketchy setting with good acoustics. this way the feelings of anxiety from the poem would translate well.

Imagine

Imagine is a video presentation, presenting the quote from the appropriation project primarily, with images that emphasize the sentence. This quote was the foundation of the project. The images chosen are meant to show how advanced this society has become and I feel that they work well with the given statement. The whole project is meant to present the quote itself, with the complementary images, and images of the appropriation project in the works.

Beauty Queen

Beauty Queen is a video work, commenting on the idea of true beauty, as well as showing the ridiculousness of the subculture portrayed in the tv show. The remix of Toddlers in Tiaras with The Sleeping Beauty Ballet, is to contrast the elegance and aesthetic satisfaction of a traditional ballet performance, with the craziness of the Ilana, the six year old ‘beauty queen’, emphasized by the hectic music in the back.

INFLUENCES

Marco Gomez del Moral, cinematographer who has done a handful of wonderful contemporary music videos, such as this one:

EL GUINCHO | Bombay from MGdM | Marc Gómez del Moral on Vimeo.

Jean Giraud, who is a French surrealist illustrator who has done much of his work for comic books like marvel, but is most famous for his work with Moebius.
from the '40 days dans le desert' series of Moebius

Kris Lewis, a painter who does great portrait work.

A big influence of mine comes from music and their videos as well. One music video I love is the song, ‘Lovely Bloodflow’ by Baths:

Baths – “Lovely Bloodflow” from anticon. on Vimeo.

Roberto Ferri, is another artist whose work I like. He is inspired by Baroque painters, and talented Romaticism and Academism painters. He is a very talented Italian painter.
