Christianne Leduc

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I’m Christianne Leduc, a first year student currently studying at ACAD who hopes to major in something design related. I’m not entirely sure what yet, but it’s going to happen. Anyways, I was born and raised in Calgary. Nothing really exciting there. Graphic design and drawing both appeal to me and I draw a ton of inspiration from the crazy pop art Asia comes up with (or just crazy art in general).

PROJECTS

Appropriation Project

The Appropriation Project was a wall mural based on a quote on our interactions with technology. The quote spoke about how people fight for their identities online, so the mural reflected people’s constant fight with technology on social media networks and such. Other Credits: Kelsey Ray, Adrian DeVries
Artist’s Statement: This first project threw me off since I wasn’t expecting this to be a team project. Not only that, but it was also a physical piece rather than being done solely on the computer. In the end though, the piece actually represented the quote rather well, which was something I was skeptical about, and the team work actually helped the end result since there were more ideas and opinions given.

Translations

This was a video project based on a group interpretation of a different audio piece. The point of it was to create obscure sounds that did not connect with the images displayed. The program used to edit was  iMovie. Other Credits: Taha Ben-Ashur, Shige Ishi and Mitch Warrington.
Artist’s Statement: This was another group project, but this one was all about working through the process of creating art instead of over thinking it.  This one really helped me understand the fact that action is sometimes better than thinking things out completely and was extremely useful with my progress over the year. I kind of wish I had more time to manipulate the sounds, but it is what it is.

Gifs

These are just two untitled gifs. One has circles that disappear. The other one with the black and white arrows that go through a continuous cycle. The program used was Photoshop.
Artist Statement:  I know we were supposed to have some kind of deep meaning when making these, but I had a ton of trouble with my computer this class, so I ended up with the first ideas that came to mind. The circles disappearing kind of reflect my anxiety at the time and the arrows kind of represent about how pointless I thought the whole thing was. …Though I guess the important part is that I actually learned how to make these things.

Social Media

Social Media is a mix of sound and images that reflect society’s fight with their identity. The programs used were iMovie and Audacity.
Artist’s Statement: I tried to go for a creepy atmosphere in this one, and I’d say it worked for the most part. It was my first time working with audacity, so that was an interesting experience on it’s own. The hardest part was finding relevant images and making them fit into the ‘creepy’ theme since all of the social media icons and such are extremely cheerful. However, this was fixed easy enough with iMovie effects.

Your Second Childhood in 128 Seconds

Your Second Childhood is an audio piece based on an extremely small survey asking people born in the 1990′s what they remembered from childhood.
Artist’s Statement: This project was a pain. I wanted to try to remix the sounds so that they blended together more, but the more I messed around with it, the less recognizable it became. This just didn’t work since the whole point of the project was that it was supposed to be recognizable. With this project though, I did get to know Audacity a bit better.

Intermission

Intermission is an iPad app based on a song by the band “Panic! At the Disco” with the same title. The point of the project was to capture the essence of the band.
Artist’s Statement: It’s hard to get the essence of a band when they’ve changed so drastically over the years in both their sound and their actual band members, so I went with one of their lyric-less songs and their band logo. As for the technical part of it, I actually really enjoyed C4. Sure, figuring out the placement of the circles was a pain, but it was a lot of simple copy and pasting. The same goes for the lines I had going across the screen.
