MADT 301 is the independent studio component for MADT majors. The core of the student portfolio is independent work, and this course is meant to provide the time to research and develop that work.

Scott Gabel Furkay //

Scott Furkay grew up triangulating between the city-centers of Vermont, New York & Montreal; always maintaining constant observation of the people, architecture, landscapes, food, design & culture. These experiences have paired well with further world travel and work experience, providing Scott with a platform to incorporate every-day surroundings into his practice. His constantly evolving practice offers the chance to stylistically reinvent himself on a regular basis.

Scott currently resides in Calgary, Alberta as a freelance photographer, graphic designer & 3D developer. He is finishing his final year at The Alberta College of Art + Design completing his degree in Media Arts & Digital Technologies. Once that challenge has been completed, it will be on to the next one, and in the words of Yousuf Karsh…

> Product Design: Personal Business Cards

MADT.317: After our class project, I decided to develop my own business cards. The bottom card incorporates an Augmented Reality feature, which will include a Google Sketchup model pop-up of my logo & information. The AR portion is still being developed in Build-AR with the help of MADT Dept. Head, Alan Dunning.

> VISO Architectural Lighting Documentation Project

This project is a commissioned photo essay documenting VISO Lighting’s 100k lighting installation at RUSH Restaurant in downtown Calgary, Alberta. The photos were commissioned by Lightform Inc. of Calgary, Alberta for their 2011 Fall/Winter Catalog.

This will be a photographic set documenting the Backside Tours excursion to Kimberley Ski Resort in Kimberley, BC. The subject is made up of a specific commissioned wall-art piece consisting of The Vortex black-diamond run.

> The Backside Tours Exhibit Project

This project is a commissioned photo exhibit & interior design remodel initially rendered with 3D modeling software & AR (Augmented Reality) software. The 3D rendering will eventually showcase unique furniture designs as well as a photography exhibit of images that I have shot for them on past excursions. The setting for this installation is in the 31’ X 17’ Backside Tours office space in Edmonton, Alberta.

MADT.202: The Glitch Project is a video montage comprised of computer screen shots of error messages. The project was completed in order to highlight a regular occurrence that we normally brush off and, while it annoys us, we live with and accept. Glitches happen in all mediums not restricted to computers. Television cable cuts out, a CD or record skips, a cell phone call cuts out, the ceiling lights flicker, etc. The project was created in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 for the MADT.202 Digital Studio course.
